Italian health care unions call for urgent government meeting on OSS reforms

The Federazione Nazionale MIGEP, the Stati Generali OSS and the SHC OSS union have sent an urgent request for an institutional meeting to Health Minister Orazio Schillaci, Minister of Labour Paolo Zangrillo, Under‑Secretary Marcello Gemmato and all political forces. The appeal highlights that more than 350,000 Operatori Socio‑Sanitari (OSS) are excluded from decision‑making tables and calls for a shift in health‑policy planning.

The joint document, signed by Angelo Minghetti (MIGEP), Gennaro Sorrentino (Stati Generali OSS) and Gianluca Farruggio (SHC OSS), lists concrete demands: stronger legal protection under Law No. 3/2018 and official recognition of the profession’s wear‑and‑tear nature; creation of a National Register of OSS; a uniform, publicly funded training system; clear definition of OSS roles in community health houses ahead of the implementation of DM 77; and a critical review of the newly introduced Assistente Infermiere figure. The unions argue that without these steps the profession’s dignity and patient safety are at risk.
