Italy: Organizations promote organ and blood donation culture
Various Italian organizations are intensifying efforts to promote the culture of donation, focusing on organs, blood, and bone marrow. In Amantea, AIDO, AVIS, and ADMO are organizing an event to address misconceptions and encourage participation, particularly among younger generations. Data from the National Transplant Center shows that while organ donations in Calabria increased by 2.7% in 2024, a significant portion of citizens still decline to express consent.
In Alessandria, AIDO is utilizing film to raise awareness through the short film ‘Briciole al Cielo’, which tells the true story of a child who received a heart transplant. Meanwhile, in Pordenone, the Afds association is holding its provincial congress to recognize hundreds of meritorious donors and discuss strategies to strengthen its volunteer network, which approached 11,000 donations in the previous year.
Medical students and volunteers are also emphasizing the importance of civic responsibility, advocating for donation to become a normalized habit rather than a response to emergencies.
