During an unprecedented heatwave in Italy, surface temperatures on parked cars have risen enough to cook an egg on the roof, highlighting the danger of extreme interior heat for passengers, children, the elderly and pets. The phenomenon underscores the risk of heatstroke and damage to vehicle components.

Manufacturers and consumer guides recommend anti‑UV parasols that block at least 99 % of ultraviolet rays, reflect up to 95 % of solar heat and can lower cabin temperatures by up to 15 °C. These sunshades are typically made of metallised film, feature quick‑clip or suction‑cup mounts, and are marketed as ways to improve comfort, reduce air‑conditioner use, save fuel and cut emissions.
