Italian heritage initiatives focus on longevity and maritime history
In Teulada, Sardinia, the municipality is launching the ‘Radici di Lunga Vita’ project to explore the community's high concentration of centenarians. Collaborating with the University of Cagliari and the Regional Observatory of Sardinia's Blue Zones, the initiative aims to study how genetics, diet, environment, and social connections contribute to longevity. The project includes a show cooking event featuring local ingredients and traditional knowledge shared by elderly residents.
In Bagnoli, Gennaro Masullo, owner of the historic Lido Fortuna 1891, is working to preserve the maritime and thermal history of the Campi Flegrei region. His family's connection to the coastline dates back to 1763. Masullo maintains an extensive documentary archive that tracks the evolution of the coastal area from Coroglio to La Pietra, documenting the historical importance of the thermal springs and seaside activities in the Gulf of Pozzuoli.
