Italian high school students embark on Holocaust remembrance trip to Auschwitz

Around twenty pupils from the IIS Fermi Pitagora Calvosa in Castrovillari, Calabria, will travel to Kraków on 15 July as part of the “Da Ferramonti ad Auschwitz” project. The journey, selected and financed by the Regional School Office of Calabria under the national “Viaggi della Memoria” programme, includes visits to the Kazimierz Jewish quarter, the Auschwitz‑Birkenau concentration‑camp complex and the Oskar Schindler factory. Before departure the students studied documents, testimonies and the meaning of memory and responsibility.

The educational tour will conclude in September with a visit to the former Ferramonti internment camp in Tarsia, Italy, where they will compare the Polish sites with Italy’s own wartime history. Upon returning, the group will present their reflections through public meetings, written reports and a documentary exhibition for the wider school community.
