Italian highways reopen in Corridonia-Morrovalle and L'Aquila

The four‑lane superstrada between Corridonia and Morrovalle has been fully reopened after work completed this afternoon, ending weeks of traffic bottlenecks and reducing the risk of accidents that followed a fatal crash on 14 June. A new lane‑shift at the Varano tunnel on the Umbria border will begin on Monday, but the main stretch now returns to normal flow for commuters and weekend travelers.

In L’Aquila, the central lane of Viale Corrado IV was reopened a day early, five days ahead of the original schedule. The opposite direction remains closed, with detours via Via Beato Cesidio, Via Paolucci, Via Ugo Piccinini and State Road 80. The works, started on 6 July, involved resurfacing with a stronger asphalt layer and preparation for pedestrian crossings, with decisions pending on call‑button traffic lights versus illuminated crossings.
