Italian hospital doctors call for new law on medical act
Hospital doctors in Italy are calling for the establishment of a formal law regarding the medical act. Speaking at Palazzo Montecitorio in Rome, Guido Quici, president of Cimo-Confederazione italiana medici ospedalieri, noted that the medical act is currently governed by a code of ethics rather than legislation. He argued that a formal law is necessary to clearly define professional competence and legal responsibility, particularly as the number of healthcare professions increases.
Quici also expressed concerns regarding the impact of digital transformation and artificial intelligence. He cautioned that if clinical judgment is reduced to mere protocols and algorithms, the essential relationship between doctors and patients could be undermined.
Separately, the SIMG Lazio organization has identified key priorities for the implementation of DM77 and the operation of Community Houses. These priorities include building functional networks with family doctors and ensuring adequate human resources and training to manage an aging population and increasing chronic illnesses.
