Italian hospital projects face construction and timeline delays

Major healthcare infrastructure projects in Italy are facing significant timeline uncertainties and delays.

In Novara, the Città della Salute project aims for a 2027 construction start, but several variables threaten this schedule. During a regional commission hearing, extraordinary commissioner Marco Corsini noted that environmental procedures, specifically whether the project requires an ordinary Environmental Impact Assessment (VIA), could extend timelines. Even in a favorable scenario, the completion of the services conference in early 2027 would still leave several months required to finalize the contract.

Similarly, the new hospital project in Pesaro has seen its timeline shifted significantly. While a 2022 program agreement projected completion by 2027, regional President Acquaroli recently announced that the tender process is now expected to take place in 2027. Regional Councilor Micaela Vitri criticized the delay, noting that the project currently lacks an executive design and that the separation of demolition and construction procedures has hindered progress.
