The INI Grottaferrata hospital in the Castelli Romani area has installed the VELYS robotic system, the first of its kind in the ASL Roma 6 region. The robot uses infrared cameras and optical sensors to map a patient’s knee anatomy in real time, allowing surgeons to plan and adjust prosthetic placement during total or partial knee replacement. In Messina, the Papardo hospital became one of the first 50 centres in Italy to implant the Medtronic Ev‑ICD extravascular implantable cardioverter‑defibrillator. The device delivers life‑saving therapy without leads placed inside the heart or veins, reducing complications while maintaining high efficacy. Hospital director Prof. Giuseppe Andò highlighted the achievement as a sign of the centre’s commitment to advanced, locally‑available cardiac care.

Both installations expand access to state‑of‑the‑art orthopedic and cardiac treatments for Italian patients, reducing the need to travel to distant facilities.
