Italian hospitals perform advanced minimally invasive cardiovascular procedures
Medical professionals in Italy have successfully performed advanced minimally invasive procedures to treat complex cardiovascular conditions.
At the University Hospital of Padua, vascular surgeons successfully treated three patients with complex aortic arch aneurysms. Using a microinvasive endovascular technique, surgeons implanted dedicated endoprostheses through the arteries. This approach avoided opening the chest and did not require stopping blood circulation. To ensure precision, the team used 3D-printed anatomical models reconstructed from CT scans to plan the specific requirements for each patient's anatomy.
Separately, at the San Luca Hospital in Vallo della Lucania, cardiologists performed a highly complex combined intervention on a young patient suffering from recurrent cerebral ischemic events and debilitating migraines. In a single session, the team performed atrial fibrillation ablation via electroporation using the Farapulse system, a minimally invasive closure of the left atrial appendage with a Watchman device, and the closure of a patent foramen ovale (PFO) using a Talisman PFO Occluder. The patient is reported to be in excellent condition and asymptomatic.
