Italian hunting groups decry ideological bias in hunting bill debate
A coalition of Italian hunting organisations—including Fidc, Enalcaccia, Anlc, ANUUMigratoristi, Arcicaccia, Italcaccia and Cncn—issued a joint statement on the pending hunting bill (ddl Caccia). The groups argue that rural and mountain communities “do not need top‑down lessons on how to respect the environment” and that the debate should be grounded in facts and in respect for the dignity of those who live and safeguard the territories.
They stress that hunting, forest care and wildlife management are integral to local identity and serve as a concrete safeguard against land degradation and depopulation. The statement rejects the idea that urban perspectives are morally superior to the pragmatic knowledge of rural inhabitants, calling such views “ideological prejudice”. It also highlights the contradiction of anti‑hunting critics who continue to purchase meat from supermarkets, delegating slaughter to others, and says that only critics who follow a strict vegan or vegetarian lifestyle can offer consistent criticism.
