Italian institutions advance sustainability and social responsibility
Several Italian institutions are advancing sustainability and social responsibility initiatives through new reporting and environmental measures.
Carifermo has released its first Sustainability Report, covering environmental, social, and governance activities. The bank also obtained the UNI/PdR 125:2022 certification for gender equality, implementing policies focused on equitable hiring, skill valorization, and work-life balance.
In Florence, the Meyer Children's Hospital has published its first sustainability report, becoming the first public facility in Tuscany to report its environmental, social, and economic impact. The hospital reported a 4.4% reduction in total energy consumption and a 12% decrease in direct greenhouse gas emissions between 2024 and 2025.
Key environmental projects at Meyer include a planned 2 MW photovoltaic plant and the use of geothermal energy. The hospital's five-hectare park is estimated to produce 50 tons of oxygen annually and has a CO2 storage potential of approximately 880 tons. A plan is in place to plant an additional 500 trees by 2030 in collaboration with the University of Florence.
