Italian institutions launch initiatives to support disability rights and reform

In Italy, new institutional initiatives are being launched to support disability rights and reform welfare governance.

Roma Tre University and the Lazio Region Disability Guarantor have signed a collaboration protocol to enhance accessibility and inclusion. The agreement focuses on joint research, training, and teaching, with a specific emphasis on developing innovative models for universal accessibility in university structures, digital platforms, and educational materials. The partnership also aims to monitor the living, studying, and employment conditions of university students with disabilities in the Lazio region.

In Tuscany, Anci Toscana and the Tuscany Region have introduced a training program for local authorities to navigate the disability reform mandated by Legislative Decree 62/2024. The program is designed to help mayors, social policy assessors, and municipal officials understand their new regulatory obligations and responsibilities. The initiative seeks to transition local municipalities from mere service providers to active coordinators of territorial systems that support individual life projects through integrated social, health, and educational networks.
