Italian judicial proceedings advance in homicide and corruption cases

In Italy, judicial proceedings are advancing in two separate criminal investigations.

In the case of Alessandro Carminucci, a 25-year-old engineer accused of murdering his 89-year-old grandmother, Gilda Di Giuseppe, in Altino, a psychiatric evaluation has been ordered. The evaluation, to be conducted by psychiatrist Salvatore Spinella, will focus on Carminucci’s mental capacity and fitness to stand trial, as he has a history of psychiatric disorders. The investigation follows a violent incident on August 5 where the suspect allegedly used a hammer and cutting tools. Interviews are scheduled to begin on October 13 at the Chieti prison.

Separately, in Cosenza, former mayor of Carolei Francesco Iannucci underwent a two-hour interrogation by a judge regarding allegations of water adulteration, corruption, and bid-rigging. The prosecution has requested his pretrial detention. Iannucci’s defense has submitted new documentation regarding the safety of the local water source and questioned why the area was not seized by authorities earlier in the investigation.
