Italian justice workers protest against contract expirations

Labor unions, led by Fp Cgil, are organizing protests across Italy to demand the permanent stabilization of judicial staff hired under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Current contracts for approximately 1,500 workers are set to expire on September 30, with no guarantees for renewal.

In Genoa, 25 employees—including data entry operators and technical officials—face job loss, which union leaders warn will exacerbate existing staffing shortages in courts and juvenile tribunals. Similarly, in Florence, demonstrators held flash mobs to protest the exclusion of workers from permanent positions.

The union is calling for an extension of current contracts until December 31 and is requesting that the government allocate resources in the upcoming budget law to ensure definitive hiring. Fp Cgil argues that these professionals have been vital in improving judicial processing times and that losing their expertise would be detrimental to the justice system.
