Italian labor unions declare agitation over service cuts and wage disputes

Labor unions in Italy have declared states of agitation regarding different public service disputes. In the Brindisi region, staff from the Consorzio Ats Br4 have initiated a sit-in following a decision to reduce service hours for students with disabilities. The cuts, which affect both severe and mild disabilities, impact approximately 160 workers and have drawn criticism from the CGIL, Cisl, and Uil unions, who cite negative economic and social consequences.

Separately, workers from the Unione Rubicone e Mare are mobilizing over wage and organizational issues. The FP CGIL union has announced a strike scheduled for October 8, 2026, preceded by a demonstration at the Union Council on September 30. The 145 employees are demanding improved accessory wages and better working conditions, alleging that local mayors have failed to provide concrete responses to their requests.
