Italian labor unions discuss Ex Ilva crisis and Palermo hospital closure

Labor unions and the Italian Ministry of Labor have initiated discussions regarding support measures for workers facing the Ex Ilva crisis. The talks focused on implementing retirement pathways linked to strenuous work. These measures are expected to be included in the upcoming Budget Law rather than a separate decree. Union representatives, including FIM-CISL, emphasized the need to mitigate social impacts and protect subcontracted workers who risk exclusion due to current thresholds.

Separately, healthcare unions in Palermo have expressed concern over the planned three-year closure of the Ingrassia Hospital for renovation and efficiency upgrades starting in 2027. Unions are demanding transparency regarding the reorganization of emergency services, such as the emergency room and intensive care units, to prevent service disruptions. They are also seeking guarantees for staff stability and relocation plans during the construction period.
