Italian labor unions protest worker suspensions and reinstatement failures

Labor unions in Italy are raising alarms over two separate employment disputes involving worker rights and management decisions.

In Fornacette, the FLAI CGIL is protesting the suspension of a worker at the Biancoforno plant. The employee has been suspended for over two and a half months following a private incident that occurred outside of the workplace. The union claims the company took drastic action without hearing the worker's version of events and is questioning the lack of objective criteria used in the decision.

In Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi, the CGIL Public Function is calling for municipal intervention regarding four workers at the M. Grazia Gargano elderly care home. Despite a court order mandating their reinstatement following a change in service contracts, the workers have not yet returned to their posts. The cooperative managing the facility has rejected appeals against the court's decision and has suggested the possibility of withdrawing management of the facility entirely, a move the union warns would jeopardize essential social services for the community.
