Italian language evolution discussed at Dialoghi di Trani
Discussions regarding the evolution and power of the Italian language were highlighted during the ‘Dialoghi di Trani’ event at Palazzo San Giorgio. Author and content creator Marco Ballarè presented his new book, ‘Con parole tue. Viaggio fra le etimologie e i modi di dire più curiosi della lingua italiana’, which explores the history of the language from the 17th-century Accademia della Crusca vocabulary to modern digital neologisms.
Ballarè noted that while early lexicography focused heavily on the literary Tuscan language of authors like Dante and Petrarch, it often excluded scientific and mathematical terms. The evolution of language is viewed as a continuous process where words transform, enter new usage, or fall into obsolescence, shaping the very way human thought is constructed and shared.
