Italian law enforcement confiscates large cocaine shipment at Civitavecchia and tobacco at Rome airport
Italian authorities seized more than 23 kg of high‑purity cocaine hidden in a specially built double‑bottom compartment of a car at the port of Civitavecchia. A German citizen was arrested, and the seizure also included a modified vehicle, a smartphone and over €1,000 in cash. The operation was carried out by the Guardia di Finanza together with the Polizia di Frontiera and the Agenzia delle Dogane.
At Rome’s Leonardo Da Vinci airport, Guardia di Finanza agents, in coordination with customs officials, intercepted travelers from Addis Ababa carrying 127 kg of smuggled tobacco and 46 counterfeit clothing items. Six suspects were released pending further investigation. Both actions illustrate intensified inspection efforts at Italy’s major transport hubs.
