Galeazzo Bignami blames Conte II government for Covid‑19 transparency lapses in parliamentary audit

Deputy Galeazzo Bignami was audited by the Covid‑19 commission, where he reiterated accusations against the Conte II government and former health minister Roberto Speranza for concealing a “secret” pandemic plan, failing to trace passengers from Wuhan, and donating large quantities of protective equipment to China while masks were scarce in Italy.

The hearing, lasting about ninety minutes, featured fellow League member Alice Buonguerrieri asking the questions, while opposition parties (PD, M5S, AVS, IV) boycotted the session. Only the Lega submitted a single query, and commission president Marco Lisei (FdI) posed additional questions. A joint statement from the opposition groups later described the hearing as “one of the lowest points” of the commission’s work.

Bignami also disclosed that he had sued the Ministry of Health, won a ruling from the TAR confirming the existence of the secret plan, and subsequently obtained the document. He accepted civil and possible criminal responsibility for his statements made in the parliamentary setting.
