Italian leaders emphasize security amid new local and national initiatives

Mayor Ascanio Cascella of Velletri said the municipal administration will strengthen police controls and introduce a neighbourhood‑watch protocol after a provincial security commission meeting. He noted an increase in officers and equipment to make patrols more frequent and stressed the need for joint action, stating, “La sicurezza dei cittadini è una priorità assoluta e richiede un impegno condiviso tra istituzioni, Forze dell’Ordine e comunità.”

Senator Lucio Malan of Fratelli d’Italia reiterated that security remains a core priority of the Meloni government, adding that there is “no acceleration” on new measures. He pointed to an EU shift on immigration policy and highlighted record‑level repatriations of migrants who commit crimes, saying the government’s security agenda began in October 2022 with notable results.
