Italian libraries La Magna Capitana and Girolamini reopen to public
Major Italian libraries are resuming operations following periods of closure and restoration. In Foggia, the La Magna Capitana library has reopened after being closed since August 2023 for safety upgrades. The renovation, which involved investments exceeding 5.5 million euros by the Puglia region, includes energy efficiency improvements and the reopening of the first floor, which houses the children's library, narrative rooms, and a consultation area with 200 seats.
In Naples, the Biblioteca dei Girolamini has also resumed visits following a technical break. The library, which houses over 150,000 titles including 94 incunabula and thousands of musical manuscripts, is working to balance scholarly study with public visitation. Recent exhibitions at the site drew over 10,000 visitors, signaling a return to regular activity for the historic complex.
