Modena police issue 18 fines for illegal disabled parking spaces

From 3 to 18 June, the Modena local police carried out a targeted campaign to protect the mobility of people with reduced motor abilities. Seventy‑five patrols performed 736 checks in the historic centre, near commercial areas and health facilities where disabled parking bays are located. The checks resulted in 18 fines of €168 each for illegal occupation of reserved spaces, with the offending vehicles removed. In addition, six penalties were issued for the use of expired EU disabled permits (CUDE) and two for permits issued to deceased persons; eight permits were withdrawn. Alessandra Camporota, the local police assessor, said the operation “confirms the attention and professionalism of the police, guaranteeing a fundamental right for people with disabilities.” The campaign also highlighted a growing public awareness, as the number of violations was relatively low compared with the total checks.
