Italian literature features new family saga and reflections on female writers

Italian literature is highlighted through two distinct perspectives: the release of a new magical realism novel and reflections on the history of female authorship.

Giulia Paganelli has released “Le sussurratrici,” a family saga set in the Modenese countryside. The novel follows five generations of women who possess ancestral gifts, such as culinary alchemy and the ability to communicate with spirits. The story centers on Adelasia, who inherits a recipe notebook and a villa, uncovering submerged family memories and mystical traditions.

In a separate cultural discussion at the Festival del Pensare Contemporaneo, author Dacia Maraini addressed the importance of face-to-face interaction in an era of virtual communication. Maraini reflected on the history of women writers who often had to write anonymously or under pseudonyms to find freedom. She emphasized that engaging with books and shared reflections serves as a vital practice for democracy.
