Italian localities Panarea and Milazzo impose new summer traffic and parking bans

From July 1 to September 15 2026, the municipality of Panarea on Italy’s Aeolian islands will enforce a strict vehicle circulation ban. The ordinance prohibits all motorised traffic between noon and 16:30, except for taxis, and bans combustion‑engine vehicles overnight, with limited exceptions for commercial vehicles performing work‑related duties. Emergency services, police and waste‑collection vehicles remain exempt, and new designated parking stalls have been created for taxis and two‑wheelers.

In the nearby town of Milazzo, opposition councillors have called on the mayor and local police to regulate the uncontrolled parking on the western seawall. They warn that the open‑air lot, created by recently opened access gates, poses safety risks for pedestrians, residents and tourists. The councillors cite previous council resolutions that limited the area to municipal service vehicles, urging immediate enforcement to protect public safety during the summer season.
