Italian log worker Pasquale Spensieri dies after fatal wood‑cutting accident

Pasquale Spensieri, a 55‑year‑old lumber worker from Vinchiaturo, was struck in the chest by a piece of wood while performing cutting operations in the forests of Pietracatella, Molise on 27 April 2026. He was rushed in a red‑code ambulance to the Cardarelli Hospital in Campobasso, where he underwent an emergency surgery for severe internal bleeding. A second operation was required 48 hours later, but his condition continued to deteriorate and he died on 9 May 2026 in the intensive‑care unit.

The Campobasso prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation to determine whether workplace‑safety protocols were observed. The deceased’s body has been placed under judicial seizure for forensic examination, and investigators are reviewing the tasks performed, equipment used and the chain of responsibility at the timber site. Spensieri’s sister Sandra has publicly demanded justice for her brother.
