Italian lottery winner’s ex‑wife sues widow for €5,000 monthly allowance

In 2019 a truck driver from Padua won a record €220 million in Italy’s SuperEnalotto, the largest prize in the game’s history. He left his job, bought a house and cars, and paid a €6,300 monthly divorce allowance to his first wife, a 53‑year‑old cleaning worker from Varese.

He remarried a 37‑year‑old woman from Chieti in July 2025 and moved to Padua. The driver died suddenly in June 2026 without children or other heirs, leaving his estate to the second wife, who became the universal heir. The ex‑wife has now filed a claim in court seeking a successor allowance of about €5,000 per month, invoking article 9‑bis of the Italian divorce law. The court will determine whether the allowance is justified based on the former payments and the financial situation of both women.
