Catania police seize ten suspects linked to Carcagnusi mafia drug network
The Catanian Prosecutor’s Office ordered the State Police to place ten individuals in custody on suspicion of drug trafficking and other mafia‑related offences. The suspects are alleged members of the Carcagnusi clan, a branch of Cosa Nostra operating in Catania. The operation was carried out by the Mobile Squad of Catania with support from the Central Operational Service and mobile units in Palermo and Reggio Calabria, under the coordination of the District Antimafia Directorate.
The arrests follow earlier preventative measures taken on 8 June, when twenty people were detained on charges that included mafia association, drug dealing, weapons possession, attempted murder and illegal firearms handling. Prosecutors say the new detainees are gravely indicted for the acquisition and sale of narcotics, and for supporting the clan’s criminal structure. The investigation remains ongoing.
