Italian manicure technique uses negative space to elongate nails
The Italian manicure technique is gaining popularity as a way to visually elongate short or wide nails without the use of extensions, gel, or acrylics. This method relies on an optical illusion created by leaving a very thin, unpainted strip of natural nail along the sides of the nail bed. By applying color close to the cuticle while maintaining negative space on the lateral edges, the central block of color appears narrower and more vertical.
This trend is not limited to nude tones; colors such as red, black, and pink have also been used to achieve a graphic and architectural effect. The technique focuses on proportion and precision rather than changing the physical length of the nail.
