Italian maritime transport faces logistical and security updates

Maritime transport services in Italy are facing logistical adjustments. In the Campania region, the ferry company Medmar has expressed inability to independently implement a new connection plan for Ischia and Procida. The proposed changes, intended to address heavy traffic limitations at the Port of Pozzuoli, would require suppressing the historical 4:30 AM Pozzuoli-Ischia route. Medmar has stated it is willing to provide supplementary services from Naples to Ischia, provided that the Campania Region or another entity covers the associated costs.

Meanwhile, in the port of Civitavecchia, security and operational capacity are being enhanced. Through a collaboration between the Port Authority and Rimorchiatori Laziali Spa, towing services have been extended to better manage increased maritime traffic and unpredictable weather. The fleet of five tugboats will now see one unit extend its operational hours from 6:00 to 18:00 during adverse weather conditions, specifically targeting peak arrival and departure times for cruise ships and line services.
