Stellantis reassures Cassino plant as Italy pushes 2026 automotive reforms

Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made‑in‑Italy Adolfo Urso warned that 2026 must be the year of European reforms to avoid the de‑industrialisation of the auto sector, blaming the EU Green Deal for a continental crisis and calling for a technology‑neutral approach and an accelerated Industrial Accelerator Act.

Stellantis representatives, including Europe head Emanuele Cappellano, rejected any plan to close the Cassino factory, promised a clear industrial plan for the plant by year‑end and outlined new model launches – a Maserati Grecale in 2027 and additional E‑car platforms at Pomigliano by 2028. The group also announced a €1 billion investment for the Atessa plant and a €5 billion spend on new technologies with €7 billion of annual contracts for the component‑supply chain, aiming to safeguard jobs across Italy’s automotive network.

Regional authorities – Lazio, Abruzzo, Emilia‑Romagna and Molise – called for a definitive industrial roadmap, a special economic zone for Cassino and guarantees for workforce stability, while highlighting the broader need for investment, innovation and market access to keep the Italian auto industry competitive.
