Italian Minister Eugenia Roccella's 84‑Year‑Old Husband Missing in Lake Vico

Minister of Families Eugenia Roccella posted a message thanking those who offered support after her husband, 84‑year‑old engineer and university professor Luigi Cavallari, went missing in the waters of Lake Vico near Ronciglione on 27 June. The couple was on a small boat when Cavallari dove for a swim and was unable to climb back aboard, apparently due to a sudden illness and the boat’s movement. Roccella alerted rescuers; a large operation coordinated by the Viterbo prefecture searched the lake but found no trace.

The disappearance has drawn condolences from politicians across the spectrum and trade unions. The couple, together since 1976, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in March and have two children. Cavallari previously headed a department of built environment technologies and directed an engineering degree program at the University of Gabriele D'Annunzio in Chieti‑Pescara.
