Luigi Cavallari, husband of Italy's family minister, still missing in Lake Vico

Luigi Cavallari, 84, the husband of Italy's family minister Eugenia Roccella, disappeared on 27 June in the Viterbese Lake Vico. Search operations have been hampered by the lake’s large surface, muddy bottom and visibility of less than one metre. A sudden storm also forced divers to pause.

The rescue effort involves 12 fire‑department divers, topographers, the Carabinieri, the State Police and the Guardia di Finanza, with aerial support from helicopters. Officials say searches are focused on instrument‑identified targets and will resume when weather improves.

Prior to the disappearance, Minister Roccella appeared on the TV program “Storie al bivio” where she spoke about her marriage to Cavallari and expressed that she felt fortunate. The interview was recorded before the incident and has been rebroadcast by several Italian outlets.
