Italian Minister Tajani Calls for Unified EU Immigration Policy

At a meeting in Marina di Pietrasanta, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani met with Forza Italia leaders to discuss a common European Union strategy on immigration and returns. He urged activation of the EU migration and asylum pact, the use of repatriation mechanisms and the creation of new processing centres in African countries such as Albania. Tajani defended the Italian government's approach against left‑wing criticism, criticized Spain’s regularisation plan and highlighted security concerns, including the need to suspend parts of the Schengen regime and to address rising jihadist threats in Africa. He also noted Italy’s involvement in ongoing Iran peace talks.

Later the same day, former prime minister Matteo Renzi spoke at the Caffè della Versiliana in Marina di Pietrasanta, reiterating that Italia Viva will only seek a parliamentary seat with its own votes, rejecting any support from the Five Star Movement or the Greens. Renzi commented on tensions within the centre‑right coalition, particularly the relationship between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Roberto Vannacci, arguing that Vannacci’s criticism of the government could benefit the centre‑left. He called for a united opposition focused on wages, the European project and security.
