Italian Minister Valditara Proposes Burqa Ban in Schools and Italian Courses for Foreign Parents
Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara announced plans to introduce an amendment to the Security Bill that would prohibit the wearing of the burqa in Italian schools. He also proposed offering Italian language courses for parents of foreign‑origin students to ensure that lessons learned in class are reinforced at home.
Valditara said a large forum will be convened in November, bringing together political parties, trade unions, teachers, experts and student councils to discuss the integration of foreign‑born pupils and to present the government’s vision for an Italy that welcomes newcomers while preserving national identity and values.
