Italian Ministry hosts Market Access Day to boost exports
The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the European Commission, hosted the second Italian edition of ‘Market Access Day’ at the Farnesina. The event brought together approximately 100 companies and trade associations to explore how European Union commercial policies can help Italian businesses overcome market access barriers in third countries.
Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani emphasized the importance of market access within the ‘Diplomacy of Growth’ strategy, aimed at diversifying trade. He noted that Italian exports reached a record 643 billion euros in 2025, with a 4.6% increase in the first seven months of 2026. The government has set a target of 700 billion euros in exports by 2027.
Discussions focused on utilizing EU free trade agreements, including those with Mercosur and India, to combat non-tariff barriers such as sanitary and phytosanitary obstacles in the agri-food sector. Participants also examined EU mechanisms designed to protect European industry from unfair commercial practices.
