Liceo Amaldi faces inspection over Gaza march promotion
The Italian Ministry of Education has ordered an inspection of the Liceo Edoardo Amaldi in Novi Ligure following the publication of an invitation on the school’s electronic register. The communication promoted a march titled ‘Sudario di Gaza’ (Shroud of Gaza), which features a cloth listing the names of 18,457 Palestinian children killed in the conflict.
Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara characterized the incident as a potential attempt at ‘indoctrination,’ stating that such practices belong to totalitarian regimes and that constitutional schools must instead foster critical thinking and pluralism. The Piedmont Regional School Office is conducting the investigation to determine if institutional tools were improperly used to convene students for a political demonstration, which could constitute a serious violation of professional ethics.
The Palestinian Coordination group has defended the school, clarifying that the Liceo Amaldi did not organize, fund, or sponsor the event. They stated the school merely signaled an extracurricular event to students and teachers, noting that participation remains entirely individual and voluntary.
