Italian Ministry of Health recalls lead-contaminated tattoo ink

The Italian Ministry of Health has issued a recall and ban on a specific batch of tattoo ink due to lead levels exceeding legal limits. The alert concerns the product ‘Dynamic Tattoo Ink Grey’, marketed under the brand ‘Dynamic Platinum’. The affected item is a 30 ml bottle from lot 111224-DP (code 810132830747), which was produced in Spain.

The Ministry has classified this as a serious chemical risk. Lead is a toxic heavy metal that can cause damage to the nervous, hematological, renal, and skeletal systems through prolonged exposure. Because tattoo pigments are introduced directly into the skin, they can remain in the body for extended periods.

This action follows European Union restrictions established in 2022 via the REACH regulation, which sets limits for thousands of potentially hazardous substances in inks, including metals, carcinogens, and mutagens. The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) estimates these restrictions affect over 4,000 substances used in tattoo inks and cosmetics.
