Italian minors seized with weapons spark debate on youth violence

Police in the coastal district of Ostia, Rome, stopped a young driver who was found carrying a knife and a baseball bat. The driver’s licence was revoked and authorities highlighted the incident as a sign of growing urban youth violence in the capital.

In the town of Gavardo, in the Valle Sabbia area of Brescia, local police intercepted a minor who had a replica pistol lacking the mandatory red tip, two blank cartridges and a balaclava hidden in a small bag. The items were seized and the youth was reported to the juvenile prosecutor for possession of a realistic imitation firearm. The operation was part of intensified local checks that also uncovered several unlicensed drivers.

Both incidents have intensified public debate in Italy over the prevalence of weapon‑related offences among minors and the need for preventive measures.
