Italian MP Domenico Furgiuele quits Lega and joins Futuro Nazionale

Domenico Furgiuele, a deputy elected from Corigliano‑Rossano in 2022, announced his departure from the Lega after twelve years, saying the party had become “post‑ideological” and no longer matched his values on identity, sovereignty and immigration. In his statement he declared, “Scelgo il generale Roberto Vannacci,” and said he would continue his political activity within the Futuro Nazionale project led by General Roberto Vannacci.

Furgiuele had been the original rapporteur for the government’s port reform bill, a key piece of legislation backed by Transport Minister Matteo Salvini. Following his exit from the party, the Lega moved to replace him, appointing fellow Lega MP Elena Maccanti as the new rapporteur to keep the reform’s parliamentary handling within the governing coalition. The reform aims to streamline port governance and attract investment in Italy’s maritime infrastructure.
