Italian municipal nursery services face local administrative disputes

Municipalities in Italy are managing different developments regarding childcare services. In one region, a new call for applications will be published in early November to fill approximately 80 available spots in municipal nurseries located on via Santina Campana and via della Fornace. The initiative includes open days for families and the introduction of the Spazio Maternale, a service for mothers and children aged zero to 12 months that is accessible even to families not enrolled in the nurseries. New educational support services, such as training on pediatric choking prevention and sleep management, are also being implemented.

In San Giovanni in Fiore, the Forza Italia council group has criticized Mayor Antonio Barile regarding delays and staffing issues. The group alleges that municipal nurseries opened with a delay of over 45 days and that the weekly hours for auxiliary staff were reduced from 20 to 18 hours. The opposition is calling for the restoration of the original working hours and greater regularity in childcare services, claiming the current administration is penalizing both workers and families.
