Italian towns' officials assert wastewater plant compliance amid cleanliness disputes

Deputy mayor Giovanni Foti of Sant'Alessio Siculo said the town’s wastewater treatment plant meets all standards. He cited inspections by the Carabinieri environmental unit in March 2026 and by ARPA earlier this summer, which found only a minor administrative infraction. He noted that the plant’s discharge authorization was renewed in November 2024 for four years, confirming its compliance, and rejected claims that the plant is responsible for the recent sea‑pollution concerns.

In Ventimiglia, councilor Gabriele Amarella, speaking for the Progressist faction, criticised the city’s persistent litter and inadequate street‑cleaning services. He argued that political responsibility cannot be dismissed, urging municipal officials to act and answer to citizens over the unsatisfactory sanitation conditions.
