Italian municipalities address pending waste fund and launch accelerated tax‑collection plan

Ninety‑one municipalities in the province of Frosinone are awaiting roughly €14 million in back‑payment settlements for waste‑disposal fees accrued since 2007. The regional authority has tasked an external firm, Lega & Partners, with reviewing the municipalities’ financial documents to certify the contributions, but many communes have struggled to supply the required records, delaying the transfer of funds.

In Perugia, the city council has approved a three‑year “accelerated collection” programme targeting the waste‑tax (TARI) and property tax (IMU). The plan, enabled by a 2026 finance law amendment, aims to improve collection rates and release up to €1.6 million per year in additional revenue, while also tightening reminders and digital notifications for taxpayers.

Both initiatives reflect efforts by Italian local administrations to resolve longstanding fiscal gaps and improve cash‑flow for public services.
