Italian municipalities allocate millions to revitalize public spaces in Rome and Catania

Rome’s municipal government has released €2.4 million to restart construction of the multi‑purpose centre in the Villaggio Prenestino district, ending a twelve‑year halt caused by legal disputes. The funding, recovered from building‑permit fees, will allow a new contractor to complete the skeletal structure within an estimated 18 months.

In Catania, the city council approved a roughly €620 k programme to carry out extensive maintenance and regeneration of public parks, including Villa Bellini and Parco Gioeni. Financed largely by the tourist accommodation tax, the works aim to improve safety, decor and plant health during the summer heat, boosting the quality of urban green space for residents and visitors.
