Italian municipalities and diocese announce nativity scene competitions for 2026
Various religious and civic entities in Italy have announced nativity scene competitions for the 2026 holiday season.
The Diocese of Ventimiglia-Sanremo, led by Mons. Antonio Suetta, is organizing a contest themed ‘The people walking in darkness have seen a great light,’ inspired by a recent homily. This edition introduces online voting via the diocesan portal, allowing parishioners to vote for their favorite displays. Participating parishes must register between October 15 and November 30. Entries will be judged on craftsmanship, thematic relevance, and use of sound or light.
In Pesaro, the municipal government is relaunching the ‘Il presepe più bello 2026’ contest. The initiative invites citizens, schools, and associations to submit traditional or modern nativity scenes to be displayed in the Town Hall atrium. Participants must submit descriptions, images, and material details by November 16, 2026. A commission of municipal officials will evaluate entries based on originality and artistic merit.
