Italian municipalities approve new video surveillance projects

Local authorities in Italy are advancing new video surveillance projects to enhance urban security and crime prevention.

In Sarno, the Extraordinary Commission approved the ‘Sarno più Sicura’ project with a total budget of €200,690. The initiative includes 19 stations equipped with 34 cameras, seven of which are dedicated to license plate reading. The project aims to protect archaeological sites, such as the Hellenistic-Roman theater in Foce, and natural areas along the Sarno river. It also targets vandalism prevention in the historic center and increased monitoring in peripheral neighborhoods.

In Borgo Marina, the municipal government approved executive plans for civil works to support a new surveillance system. Additionally, the ‘Urban Eye’ project has been launched as part of the 2026-2028 Public Works Program. This broader initiative focuses on upgrading Optical Character Recognition (OCR) license plate reading systems and extending surveillance coverage to previously unmonitored decentralized neighborhoods.
