Italian municipalities expand video surveillance to enhance urban security

Italian municipalities are expanding their video surveillance networks to enhance urban security and deter crime.

In Cuneo, the municipal camera system is being extended to sensitive areas in both the city center and outlying hamlets. The project, awarded to RRM Network by Brigroup, utilizes the city’s existing fiber optic infrastructure for high-speed data transmission and centralized management. Local officials state the system is intended as a crime deterrent and a tool for collecting anonymized data, such as vehicle traffic flows, in compliance with GDPR.

In Terralba, the municipal government has approved a technical-economic feasibility study to upgrade its surveillance system. The project aims to combat vandalism in public spaces and improve urban livability. The administration plans to request €120,000 in funding from the Ministry of the Interior, with the municipality committing €10,000 of its own funds toward the total €130,000 investment.
