Italian municipalities face criticism over TARI waste tax
A resident of Rieti, Aldo Controne, reported that the 2026 TARI advance notice arrived just before the July 31 deadline and that the payment method changed from a free F24 form to a CBILL option costing an extra €2. He also said he was unable to reach the municipal tax office after several attempts, highlighting difficulties for elderly and disabled citizens.
In the nearby town of Calci, the opposition group CALCINSIEME condemned a recent 40% increase in the TARI rate, arguing that waste‑collection services have not improved. The councilors warned that the higher fees burden families and businesses while service quality remains poor, citing insufficient collection points and ongoing litter problems.
