Italian municipalities face political and legal challenges

In Borgia, municipal councilor Giovanni Maiuolo has challenged a recent executive decision to reorganize and suppress the Local Police Corps, downgrading it to an internal structural service. Maiuolo argues that the Giunta exceeded its authority, as such modifications fall under the exclusive competence of the City Council. He has filed a formal inquiry involving the Prefecture of Catanzaro, the Court of Auditors, and the National Anti-Corruption Authority (ANAC), warning that the move disrupts the legal chain of command between the Police Commander and the Mayor.

Simultaneously, in Battipaglia, the political movement 'Etica per il Buon Governo' has raised concerns regarding a potential motion of no confidence against the mayor. The group warns that such a move would trigger the resignation of the mayor and council, leading to an 8-9 month period of prefectural administration. They argue this instability could weaken the city's ability to negotiate critical issues, such as high-speed rail compensation in Rome and the management of PNRR funds.
